Early Catholic settlers came to Rolling Fork area after 1790 and established Calvary Settlement. Among those buried in this Catholic cemetery , later renamed Holy Mary, are Revolutionary War soldiers, originally from Maryland: John Barton Abell, Henry Hudson Wathen and Benedict Spalding. Another soldier-settler, Samual Abell IV, died 1795, before cemetery created.
